Interpreting the MUFON Stephenville UFO radar report: What does it say?

By Steve Hammons

What are some of the key points in the report released Thursday, July 10, 2008, that was prepared by Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) investigators?

The “special research report” is titled “Stephenville Lights: A Comprehensive Radar and Witness Report Study Regarding the Events of January 8, 2008, 4 pm to 8 pm.”

The report’s authors, Glen Schulze and Robert Powell, are identified as highly-trained experts in technical and scientific fields relevant to this investigation. Schulze in particular is reported to have an extensive background in radar systems.

Although the report itself includes many sections of a highly technical nature, much of the language in it is plain-spoken.

POINTS TO CONSIDER

According to Schulze and Powell, the following elements emerged in their investigation:

1) Several radar facilities in the region surrounding the Stephenville, Dublin and Selden region provide radar coverage for that area. Some of this data was provided to the investigators.

2) Military commands in the area did provide some helpful information, but other information did not seem to be forthcoming in response to Freedom of Information Act requests by the investigators.

3) Several military aircraft were in the skies the evening of Jan. 8, 2008, and were conducting flights in the nearby military operating area (MOA). Some of these military aircraft had transponders turned on and some had transponders turned off. Some military flights veered into civilian airspace over the Stephenville region. There is no immediate explanation for this.

4) The investigators suspect that an Airborne Warning and Command System (AWACS) aircraft was circling the area, based on radar data.

5) A very large unidentified craft or object was detected by radar. According to the report, “This object had no transponder and was tracked on radar for over an hour. Most of the time, the object was either stationary, or moving at speeds of less than 60 mph. At 7:32 pm, the object was tracked accelerating to 532 mph in 30 seconds and then slowing to 49 mph only 10 seconds later.”

6) The location and direction of flight of this object correlated with the reports from reliable eyewitnesses on the ground.

7) In the report summary, the authors state, “As to what these witnesses saw, it is difficult to determine. It was not any known aircraft. The enormous size of the object, its complete silence, and its ability to travel at high rates of speed and to also remain stationary or travel at slow speeds, is not explained by any known aircraft.”

8) The object or craft proceeded in a direction toward the Bush ranch at Crawford for over one hour and eventually was detected as being 10 miles away from the ranch. According to the report, “There was no indication that any of the military jets reacted to the unknown aircraft that was without a required transponder …” (However, see point number 9.)

9) Witnesses on the ground did report that military jets were apparently in pursuit or accompanying an unusual object. The report’s authors point out that, “These jets do not show up on radar. If their altitude was under 2000 feet, as described by the witnesses, then they would have been too low to be detected by the nearest FAA radar.”

NATURAL QUESTIONS

There are many other important points in the MUFON report by Schulze and Powell. If we read these details and also read between the lines, we might come up with the same kinds of questions that the witnesses in the Stephenville area have about the UFOs they saw.

Some of these questions might include the following:

1) Was the object seen by multiple highly reliable witnesses, including several experienced law enforcement officers, a secret advanced or experimental U.S. craft or device?

2) If so, why would it be operating over a populated area where it could be easily observed?

3) Is it an unknown or truly unidentified object that has not previously been seen or encountered by U.S. defense and intelligence personnel?

4) Is it a known flying object or craft that is familiar to U.S. defense and intelligence personnel?

5) If so, what is its point of origin?

6) If so, is the object or craft dangerous or was it trespassing in a manner that was unacceptable?

7) Was the object or craft believed to be friendly, hostile, neutral or is this unknown?

It is natural for intelligent Americans to wonder about these kinds of questions. Although we realize that there are sensitive matters that cannot be released to the general public (and our adversaries around the world), it could be helpful for American citizens to understand more about these kinds of puzzling situations.

In fact, people around the world have had similar strange encounters and the governments, researchers, media and the public in other countries also wrestle with these kinds of situations.

According to some sources, there is an ongoing process of acclimation to prepare Americans and people internationally for more information about these kinds of scenarios.

Keeping our feet on the ground, with strong hearts and calm minds, we can continue to learn more about the Stephenville UFO incidents and possibly even more useful information.

UFOs over Stephenville neared Bush ranch, according to new MUFON report

By Steve Hammons

In a one-two punch within the past 24 hours, two more significant elements of the Stephenville, Texas, UFO sightings have occurred.

The information is astounding. And there may be more to come.

Late Thursday night, the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) released an extraordinary report about radar evidence pertaining to activities in the skies in the Stephenville region on Jan. 8, 2008.

Then, this evening, the widely-watched CNN program “Larry King Live” featured the two authors of the MUFON report, several of the Stephenville witnesses, the former local newspaper reporter who first broke the story and other guests.

The combined impact of these two developments has again put attention on this rural region of northeast Texas approximately 70 miles southwest of Fort Worth, the people who live there, investigators looking at the situation and the news media reporting about it all.

The authors of the MUFON report, Glen Schulze and Robert Powell, obtained radar information through the filing of 10 requests through the federal Freedom of Information Act. They received information from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Weather Service, all nearby military bases, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Services and the 21st and 30th Air Force Wing Commands, according to published reports.

They concluded that there were multiple non-military aircraft in the region that were unidentified and these correlated with witness reports. There was also unusually heavy military air traffic in the region that night.

BUSH RANCH AT CRAWFORD

Ever since news of the multiple sightings by highly-credible witnesses in areas around Stephenville and nearby Dublin, there has been speculation that the military jets seen in the area at the same time as the UFOs could be related to security for the Bush Ranch at Crawford, about 40 miles to the southeast.

Larry King asked about this on his show. Angelia Joiner, the former local newspaper reporter whose articles first caught the attention of the mainstream media, noted that many local people had wondered if there was some connection to the Bush ranch. But she indicated she had no specific information.

Now, the MUFON report clearly states that there were aircraft flying in the area that night without the transponders – aircraft identifier devices – and at least one appeared to be flying in the direction of the no-fly protective zone around the Bush ranch.

The MUFON investigators claim that one unknown object without a transponder was within 10 miles of the Bush ranch.

According to the MUFON report, "The object was traveling to the southeast on a direct course towards the Crawford Ranch, also known as President Bush's western White House.”

“The last time the object was seen on radar at 8 p.m., it was continuing on a direct path to Crawford Ranch and was only 10 miles away. During the entire episode of over an hour, there is no indication that any of the military jets reacted to this unknown craft," the report concluded.

The object was tracked by radar heading in the direction of the Bush ranch for approximately one hour, the report stated. Moving at a speed of 532 miles per hour at one point, the object primarily was traveling at 60 mph.

MEDIA ON THE JOB

As usual, CNN host Larry King asked intelligent and common-sense questions of his guests.

The MUFON investigators pointed out that the extensive radar data indicated an extremely high level of activity – and unusual activity at that – in the region that includes Stephenville and Crawford that night.

King also interviewed witnesses Lee Roy Gaitan, a local law enforcement constable, and Ricky Sorrells, a resident.

Gaitan spotted strange lights himself and has had contact with fellow law enforcement officers in the region who also witnessed strange objects. One local officer claims he was able to determine the speed a low-flying and slow-moving craft with his police radar gun used to ticket speeders.

Sorrells told King he saw a massive dark gray metallic object 300 above him in a wooded area where he was deer hunting one day. The object was so large Sorrells said he could not determine the edges of it as far as the eye could see.

He said it was in a stationary position above him one minute and then, in the blink of an eye, it had taken off at a 45 degree angle while remaining horizontal, and was gone.

While King has exemplified responsible reporting by the media about the Stephenville case, he has not been alone. Associated Press reporter Angela K. Brown first picked up the early indications that something was going on from reports in the small Stephenville Empire-Tribune newspaper by Angelia Joiner who was then a reporter at the paper.

When the AP article was widely published and posted on the Web, other media outlets and journalists followed up. In general, media coverage appeared to be professional, diligent and responsible.

Now, with the surprisingly thorough scientific data and conclusions in the MUFON report, we may see similar follow-through by the media.

Ancient crashed UFO claimed to be from dinosaur age 150 million years ago

By Steve Hammons

News released today about a secret U.S. government project to analyze an allegedly extraterrestrial craft has a unique twist.

This craft did not crash in 1947 in Roswell, New Mexico.

According to the anonymous sources, it crashed approximately 150 million years ago during the age of the dinosaurs.

This information has been posted on the serpo.org website, home to other reports about extraterrestrial visitation reportedly provided by current and former officials of the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA).

The conduit for the information is Victor Martinez, the moderator of an email information service that includes topics related to anomalous phenomena.

In late 2005, Martinez wrote that these DIA sources had reached out to him to reveal information about Project SERPO, a later code name for a secret exchange program in the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s between a small team of American military personnel and extraterrestrial visitors who had established contact with the U.S. government.

Other information reportedly provided by these sources noted that the U.S. government maintains records collected by both U.S. officials and a race of extraterrestrials that references visitation to Earth in ancient times.

The most recent information report from the anonymous sources via Martinez makes the claim that “A highly classified, sensitive operation with far-reaching national security implications that took place in 1968.”

ET VISITATION IN DINOSAUR AGE

“A [redacted] archaeological team uncovered a large metallic object in a remote area of southern [redacted] which is a close NATO ally of ours,” according to Martinez’ anonymous sources.

The sources also reportedly told Martinez, “The object was believed to be an alien spacecraft that had crashed approximately 200 million years ago according to the archaeological team. The site subsequently was examined by a USAF recovery team, which then put the age of the alien craft at approximately 150 million years ago.”

As fantastic as this sounds, it is not inconsistent with other speculation that if extraterrestrial visitors have been coming to Earth in recent decades, it is possible they visited in previous centuries and in the far-distant past.

Martinez reports that his sources stated, “Our scientists used the absolute dating method employing decaying radioactive isotopes. Sedimentary rock formations and the fact that the object was embedded into the rock were used to estimate the age of the alien craft.”

“The alien craft itself was 45 feet in diameter,” the sources continued. “The craft was transported to the State of [redacted] and then to the giant [redacted] lab complex in [redacted] and opened.”

“The alien craft contained two highly decomposed alien bodies and decayed animals, which were apparently abducted by these alien beings. The animals were small dinosaurs on board the alien craft.”

ANALYZING THE CRAFT

Martinez states that his sources provided the following information: “The craft was stored at [redacted] and years of intense research were conducted. The last time I checked, the research team ruled out the craft being of Eben origin.”

“Eben” is a name allegedly given to an ET culture that has visited Earth from the Zeta Reticuli star system and was the source of the crash in Roswell. They are reportedly the beings with whom the U.S. shared the exchange program.

The anonymous sources allegedly added, “However, no one could tell where it came from. The alien bodies were far too decomposed to be thoroughly examined. They were about 5 feet tall and had very large, bulbous heads.”

“To the best of my knowledge, 'Operation [redacted]' is still an ongoing project. I personally worked on the operation in the early '70s.”

“The instruments from the craft were interesting because they were made of small crystal-like devices, wired together with a form of very fine wire.”

“The alien propulsion system contained a large chamber with what we called ‘rocks’ (obviously some form of energy) in the chamber. Large vents placed around the chamber vented some sort of power, radiation or some form of tremendous energy generated through the vents and into the propulsion chamber which enabled interstellar space travel.”

The anonymous sources claimed, “Examination of the rocks found zinc, and several unknown materials and alloys which we still cannot identify to this day. The ‘rocks’ obviously lost all of their energy over the years. They were not radioactive nor did they contain any special properties. We could never power up the alien craft in the nearly 40 years we've had possession of it.”

“We could not locate the actual power system and therefore could never operate any of the equipment contained within the craft. However, we did find a 'star chart.' The chart was created from outside of the Earth on the alien home world.”

“To this day, we have been unable to read and decipher the alien star chart. The star chart was of a deep area of space, but our scientists haven't been able to find that specific area of space.”

“ … the amazing … alien technology on this craft has similarly stumped us; while some progress has been made on it since 1968, it's been minimal (partially due to the poor, degraded condition of the alien craft).”

BOGGLES THE MIND

In the posting on serpo.org and in his email service, Martinez and his anonymous sources reflect on the implications of what a discovery of this nature means.

Anonymous writes, “… the existence of alien civilizations who had already achieved space traveling capabilities zipping around the Milky Way Galaxy (and perhaps others) truly boggles the mind.”

“The Ebens were perhaps still in their ‘galactic diapers’ when these alien beings were already visiting other worlds –150-200 MYA [million years ago] and Homo sapiens did not even exist!”

“One can only wonder and speculate where a civilization – that had already achieved interstellar space travel – would be at today technologically from 150-200 MYA!"

Anonymous and Martinez continued their speculation with Anonymous allegedly stating: “How many star systems have they visited by now? How many other alien civilizations have they made successful contact and interacted with, and perhaps carry on some sort of trade with? How many solar systems have they visited and mapped out in our Milky Way Galaxy and perhaps those of other galaxies?”

“One also has to consider the possibility that rather than this crash having occurred in our timeline of 150-200 MYA, these alien beings traveled to Earth from the future to our distant past – when dinosaurs ruled – as part of a research mission ... that also boggles the mind!” Anonymous said, according to Martinez.

As with all of the Project SERPO information, this latest chapter will surely provoke discussion, doubts about its truthfulness and trigger the imaginations of many readers.

Is it true? Is it some kind of disinformation or phony claim? Is there some truth hidden within inaccurate information? Is it part of an “acclimation” program to prepare Americans and the human race for the awareness of very interesting and surprising information?

At present, it is not possible for most readers to confirm the truthfulness of the statements Anonymous is reportedly making to Martinez and Martinez is passing on to the public.

What may be helpful for our perspectives, however, is considering that if extraterrestrial visitation to Earth is a reality, then it could have been occurring in time frames beyond what we might have previously believed.

Indiana Jones meets ESP, UFOs in new movie

By Steve Hammons

In the new Indiana Jones movie, Indie runs into Soviet scientists and agents investigating psychic warfare, UFOs and the presence of extraterrestrials.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull takes viewers into topics that blend fact and fiction, rumor and classified information, fantasy and surprising reality.

As the movie begins in 1957, a Soviet team dressed as U.S. Army personnel breaks into a Nevada military base.

They are after the body of an apparent extraterrestrial recovered from the 1947 Roswell incident – the crash of a UFO.

Jones' adversary is female Soviet scientist Dr. Irina Spalko (Cate Blanchett). She is conducting research into ESP and psychic warfare as well as extraterrestrial visitors to Earth.

Later, under questioning by FBI agents, Indie confirms that he had been part of a response team to the 1947 Roswell incident, though he claims ignorance about the details.

We also learn that Jones did some work with the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) during World War II. The OSS was the intelligence and unconventional operations agency that evolved into the CIA and U.S. Army Special Forces.

ROSWELL AND REMOTE VIEWING

The story of the Roswell incident is familiar to many people due to the books, movies, TV shows and articles referencing the alleged event.

In this recent Indiana Jones film, Dr. Spalko states that there had been other UFO crashes. This, too, has been claimed to have actually happened.

Parts of these stories include accounts of the recovery of apparent non-humans, both deceased and alive.

In the movie, Spalko and her Soviet associates are trying to make the connection between extraterrestrial or extra-dimensional beings and technologies and knowledge about psychic warfare.

Is there such a connection in real life? There have been claims of communication via telepathy in the context of alleged extraterrestrial and extra-dimensional beings, but for the average person, these are just anecdotal stories.

If technologies have been created or borrowed that have something to do with mind control, ESP, telepathy and other kinds of "anomalous cognition," this is not public knowledge. Again, though, there are rumors of such things.

Apart from the alien-psychic warfare connection of the movie, there is the real-life history of remote viewing – what eventually became known as Project STAR GATE.

And it is true that the motivation of the U.S. military and intelligence community to conduct research about ESP was the discovery that there was intense interest and activity in this area by the Soviet Union.

Although Indiana Jones and his colleagues and adversaries are delving into this field in 1957, we know that modern U.S. efforts in this area started in the mid-1970s and continued until the 1990s. Some people theorize that these kinds of military and intel activities have continued in a more low-key manner. They may have also preceded Project STAR GATE-related programs.

Millions of people in the U.S. and around the world have read about Project STAR GATE operational missions and related scientific research that has reportedly demonstrated clearly that ESP, at some level and in some way, seems to exist.

The methods, techniques and protocols that the U.S. military and intel researchers called "remote viewing" are just part of larger and deeper phenomena.

And, it is probably safe to say that visitors to Earth from other galaxies and/or other dimensions would also constitute a larger and deeper situation than most of us generally think about.

As physicists and other scientists try to understand how the Universe works, we often read or hear that there may be other communications channels in Nature that we are not always aware of.

People and events may be connected in ways that are not clear or entirely logical to us. Even transportation of spacecraft and intelligent beings might occur in ways that are surprising.

Indiana Jones and his associates face these kinds of anomalies as they race to find answers that are partially revealed in the film’s climax.

HOLLYWOOD AND ACCLIMATION

Steven Spielberg and George Lucas teamed up on this movie and their combined skills and those of their co-workers create an exciting adventure that ties in with fundamental real-life mysteries.

Movies about extraterrestrial and/or extra-dimensional visitors have been around for decades. Spielberg and Lucas have contributed their fair share of wonderful films in this genre.

Some people have even speculated or whispered that Spielberg, through technical advisors and other sources, became aware of special classified activities actually going on in these areas.

It has been rumored that when President Ronald Reagan saw Close Encounters of the Third Kind, he stated that most people did not realize how true certain aspects of the movie really were.

According to some sources, Reagan may have been referring to the idea that a team of specially trained and prepared U.S. personnel were sent aboard a visiting ET spaceship for a multi-year "exchange program."

Now, Spielberg and Lucas have presented us with an Indiana Jones movie that in many ways seems to again align alleged classified activities with a Hollywood blockbuster being enjoyed by millions kids, teens and adults of all persuasions around the world.

Is Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull another form of "acclimation" – that is, a way for us to get adjusted to new developments that are not only interesting, fun and scary, but also extremely important for us to be aware of?

This could be.

It has been stated in certain circles that letting the general public in on unusual and surprising developments was a necessary part of the larger picture.

Preparing and informing people about interesting discoveries and activities is something that can be done in many ways – including films and other creative platforms.

When we sit in a theatre and watch Indie in this new movie handle difficulties and the unknown with his usual courage, experience and intelligence, we might also wonder if he is now exploring things that affect us all – today.

Human consciousness, intelligence could suddenly shift

By Steve Hammons

Many researchers have hypothesized and attempted to prove that human consciousness is undergoing significant change. This alleged change is not just increased intellectual knowledge or even social networking via the internet and other mass media.

People from diverse fields including, but not limited to, various sciences, education, the defense and intelligence communities, psychology and spirituality have conducted research about the fundamental nature of individual and group changes in human consciousness.

According to some researchers, our individual awareness is linked with a larger energy or field in terms of quantum physics theories, spiritual concepts and Nature in ways we may not fully understand at this time.

Over the last few decades, research into extrasensory perception (ESP), “anomalous cognition” (unusual or unconventional awareness), “remote viewing” (ESP methods developed in Project STAR GATE by the U.S. defense and intelligence communities) and similar areas have indicated that new ways of understanding human consciousness were emerging.

Sorting out the truth and the questionable claims and beliefs can be challenging.

Learning about theories of changing consciousness and changing realities around us can cause anxiety for some people, be interesting for others and a little of both for many folks.

With the difficulties facing us including war and armed conflict, social problems, natural disasters, threats to our natural resources (such as global climate change) and other developments, any help we can get in improving human intelligence, knowledge and consciousness would seem to be very helpful.

SCIENCE AND SPIRIT

Accompanying continued progress in understanding the potential and apparent direction of human consciousness, some researchers point out that a “unified field” or “zero-point field” probably exists around us and within us.

In addition to this hypothesized energy field underlying what we see and experience around us, there may be various dimensions that we may not always see. Some researchers propose that boundaries or membranes, sometimes referred to as “branes,” separate these dimensions.

For people who wonder about ideas like an afterlife and angels, theories about other dimensions actually existing along with our normal reality might make sense. Individuals who say they have had a “near-death experience” or NDE report crossing a boundary to a different reality.

Some spiritual researchers have hypothesized that there could be several layers or kinds of dimensions. How do these ideas fit with emerging discoveries and theories in modern physics and other sciences?

There seem to be some common elements between scientific and spiritual views. Spiritual philosophies and faiths often note that intellectual or brain-oriented thinking can only get us so far in understanding a larger intelligence or force around us.

Transcending our thinking minds, then using our hearts and what is often called a soul take us to new levels of perception, according to certain belief systems.

Some of these same kinds of elements come into play in ESP and remote viewing. By using internal resources that are not simply thinking with our brains, people can tap into perceptions we often call intuition, instincts, gut feelings, hunches, dreams and visions to gain new insights and information.

This is one area where science and spirituality seem to be merging. And it seems to be where new phenomena and insights are emerging.

GRADUAL AND SUDDEN DEVELOPMENTS

Will the human race continue to develop in awareness, intelligence and compassion at a steady pace so that we will gradually solve some of our problems and succeed as a species on our planet?

Or, might more sudden events trigger increased urgency or progress toward positive and constructive developments? It seems possible that both a steady trend in our understanding of new discoveries and certain significant events and breakthroughs could happen together.

Our trajectory of increased knowledge and understanding seems to be moving forward steadily. And, the possibility of sudden jolts of events could also be on the horizon.

A reason for concern, of course, is that these jolts could be of a problematic nature.

Things like a significant increase in human warfare, including the use of nuclear weapons, are real and current concerns that we see in the news quite frequently. Natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic activity and powerful storms are also occurring in devastating ways, causing loss of life and human suffering. Global climate change with melting polar ice, rising sea levels, volatile weather, impacts on agriculture, fresh water supplies and other outcomes could also be very damaging.

Concerns about meteors, activity of the sun and possible events in or from space can make us wonder about possible threat scenarios.

For those with very open minds, or maybe inside intelligence information, visitation to Earth of intelligent beings from other planets and/or other dimensions cannot be ruled out. In fact, the nature of possible visitation of this kind could include developing friendships and alliances with extraterrestrial visitors as well as preparing for conventional or unconventional and asymmetric defense and conflict.

The unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and other odd phenomena that are sometimes spotted in the skies around the world, and even closer encounters that some people report, make us wonder if something along these lines could actually be going on. Very credible people within the scientific, defense and intelligence fields seem to be gradually and carefully letting us know that it is wise to be prepared for more information about this kind of situation.

From the down-to-Earth views to the far-out scenarios of both positive and problematic trends and events, we can see an interesting range of possibilities. What will the future bring?

As we go about living our everyday lives, many of us wonder about what could happen in the coming days. What disasters or miracles might occur? Are there wars and battles on the horizon or a new era of peace? Will the human race develop into a more wonderful species or will we destroy ourselves in foolish warfare and destructive treatment of our planet?

Human consciousness is a key element of all of these possible scenarios.

Maybe now is the time to continue to improve our understanding about discoveries in human perception. Because time may be running out for us. Or, time as we know it may itself change in unusual ways.

We can all look into our consciousness. We might discover surprising new insights that can help us individually and globally prepare for the trends and sudden shifts that we might face in the days ahead.

Project STAR GATE’s transcendent effects surfacing now?

By Steve Hammons

More than 30 years after elements of the U.S. military and intelligence community began research into unusual “psychic” projects being conducted by the government of the former Soviet Union, we may be seeing interesting results emerging.

When looking at anomalous phenomena like the ESP “remote viewing” techniques developed and used by U.S. military and intelligence personnel (later called “Project STAR GATE”) as well as other unusual developments, it can be useful to consider that in 2008 the unconventional can be integrated with conventional thinking and human activities.

For example, in 2001 a Navy SEAL officer studying at the Marine Corps War College submitted a paper on remote viewing titled “Unconventional Human Intelligence Support: Transcendent and Asymmetric Warfare Implications of Remote Viewing."

To some readers, the report appeared to indicate that discoveries in remote viewing extend to many others areas of human endeavor – not just national intelligence, defense and warfare.

In fact, the very nature of remote viewing makes it clear that human consciousness, and what human consciousness is connected to, are elements that are fundamental to our survival and success as individuals, communities, nations and as a species on Earth.

TRANSCENDENT SOLUTIONS

SEAL officer L.R. “Rick” Bremseth, who held the rank of commander in 2001, wrote in his paper about transcendence when it comes to national defense activities.

"The real challenge for the United States is not asymmetric warfare, but rather what this writer calls transcendent warfare, the ability to conceptualize and subsequently actualize an entirely new form of warfare that transcends all previously known models," Bremseth wrote.

He continued, "Granted, transcendent warfare reflects Zen-like qualities that elude definition thereby making the above challenge more difficult. Non-linear/multidimensional and abstract/metaphysical are tentative terms that convey this concept, however, ascribing to a pat definition may in fact signal inability to comprehend the concept altogether."

These concepts can be somewhat confusing to the average reader. However, if we familiarize ourselves with psychological concepts of the “collective unconscious” and physics theories of a “unified field,” “zero point energy” and related ideas, we can get a glimpse of what Bremseth was getting at.

Put simply, there may really be an energy in the Universe like “The Force” described in the "Star Wars" movies. It is within us and around us. We can tap into it. It works with us. It has intelligence and a communication capacity.

When we transcend our everyday thinking, we can utilize new approaches to accomplish many worthwhile goals.

Transcendent operations can apply to “peace operations” and humanitarian efforts. Transcendent solutions can be geared toward the problems of climate change, oil dependence, overpopulation, disease, poverty, hunger, injustice, crime, drug abuse, slavery, child abuse, social and international conflict, political corruption, pollution of natural resources and many other challenges.

The relatively narrow slice of unconventional and transcendent phenomena called remote viewing is a small part of the larger opportunities available when examining the potential of human consciousness.

“Anomalous cognition” is a term that is related to remote viewing that sometimes brings to mind wider and deeper kinds of abilities and insights via consciousness. Still, for many of us, this term, too, can be limiting.

How can humankind achieve transcendent breakthroughs on the many difficulties we face through, as Bremseth said, “Zen-like qualities that elude definition?”

PROJECT STAR GATE’S LEGACY

When information about the U.S. military and intelligence community’s activities in Project STAR GATE surfaced in 1995, some people made fun of it as another waste of money by the defense community.

Some people were concerned that “mind control” programs by unethical people in government could damage our liberty and our nation.

What had the intelligence officers and scientists been doing in this field from the mid-1970s, when projects were developed, through the mid-‘90s when the public was told that these programs were discontinued? And, what has been going on since? Were these activities really ended or did they just go to a more covert or “black ops” status?

However, as the ideas of connections between human consciousness and modern quantum physics started to seep into society through films, books and other communications, and people saw how these ideas merged with spiritual thought, a different kind of awareness slowly developed.

Those who chose to take an objective look at remote viewing started to understand that this was something very empowering for individuals and for the human race. It was something within all of us and an ability that we can all tap into.

What Navy SEAL Bremseth called “non-linear/multidimensional and abstract/metaphysical” was a way of saying that concepts like time, space, spirituality, a higher intelligence and other ideas may not be exactly as some people thought. Or, they may be more surprising and interesting than people believed.

Now, more than a decade after news of Project STAR GATE reached the general public, not only in the U.S. but internationally, and we face continued serious threats and dangers of many kinds, we might wonder if or when the seeds of remote viewing research will bear fruit.

Bremseth noted in his 2001 paper that "... transcendent and asymmetric warfare necessitate and exemplify proactive approaches that envision these efforts as opportunities ... for the exploration and advancement of human and/or institutional potential. Such a readjustment in thinking will require dynamic, visionary leadership ..."

Do we have that kind of leadership now? Maybe more importantly, do we have this kind of visionary consciousness among the grassroots people of America and the rest of the world?

If we are to see the significant advancement of human potential, it may be probable that it will emerge from everyday average people – people with good hearts, compassion, intelligence and courage to look within their societies, themselves and the deeper realities we are connected to.

The legacy of Project STAR GATE may not yet be fully apparent. This may be because these kinds of phenomena are subtle and discreet.

The possible outcomes related to anomalous cognition could include greater knowledge of other dimensions in physics and Nature, discovery of new energy sources, enhanced human development and other improvements … improvements that could be viewed as miracles.

ESP involved in blind seniors' holes-in-one, 'Robin Hood shot?'

By Steve Hammons

Recent news stories have carried accounts of two legally blind American golfers hitting holes-in-one. And a legally blind woman in the UK made a “Robin Hood shot” at her archery range, splitting her first arrow already in the target with her second shot.

These kinds of incidents may seem like miracles or dumb luck.

Or, maybe they are examples of what researchers in human perception call “anomalous cognition” or “remote viewing.” Another term is “extrasensory perception” or “ESP.”

These are concepts, well-researched and documented by researchers, that try to give names to the human abilities of accurately perceiving aspects of situations around us using our internal instincts, intuition, gut feelings, hunches, visualization, situational awareness and other similar methods.

The U.S. Government’s Project STAR GATE of the 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s found that military and intelligence personnel could learn to perceive information about situations not available to them through their normal five senses of sight, hearing, touch, taste or smell.

They could perceive faraway places, events and other information internally.

We probably see amazing examples of this all around us. But do we recognize these unconventional occurances within others and within ourselves?

HOLES-IN-ONE, “ROBIN HOOD SHOT”

For example, an April 11 news report by the Associated Press told the story of the 85-year-old legally blind golfer in Arizona who made a hole-in-one recently at a golf course in Green Valley, near Tucson.

Robert Dunham, a former World War II paratrooper in the Pacific, was at a golf course in an activity coordinated through a blind veterans rehabilitation program of the Veterans Affairs health care system in southern Arizona.

Dunham started losing his sight ten years ago and had only been in the VA golfing program for three weeks.

His hole-in-one shot amazed fellow veterans and the VA staff watching, as well as Dunham himself.

Green Valley News reporter Nick Prevenas wrote in an April 8 article that Dunham had played golf for nearly 30 years but Dunham “said last week's fateful shot was the first time he had come anywhere near a hole-in-one.”

And then there is the April 5 news story in the St. Petersburg Times, Florida, newspaper about 92-year-old legally blind Leo Fiyalko’s hole-in-one shot on Jan. 10.

Fiyalko said that it was his first shot of the day golfing with his “Twilighters” golf buddies. He said it was his first hole-in-one in 60 years of golfing.

The Times article noted that, “Fiyalko has learned something. He admitted to being a little reluctant to talk about the shot for the first few weeks. Now he knows it is inspirational, and he's embraced it.”

Yes, it is inspirational. And maybe it is something more. Maybe events like this are examples of human perception that is not dependent on sight or other senses of sound, touch, taste or smell.

A March 27 article in the UK newspaper The Telegraph reported that 74-year-old Tilly Trotter started archery two years ago after being encouraged by her granddaughter to try it. Trotter lost much of her sight 17 years ago after a head injury.

While at the archery range one day with her husband, the amazing “Robin Hood shot” surprised everyone present.

Trotter was quoted as saying, "The second arrow made such a noise going into the back of previous arrow I thought I had hit the ceiling or done some expensive damage. Then I heard people jumping up and down shouting that I'd done a Robin Hood. It was a one-in-a-million shot and a bit of a fluke really."

What do golfers Dunham, Fiyalko and archer Trotter have in common other than being legally blind, up in years and being involved in sports where the goal is hitting a small target with hand-held tool that launches a small projectile?

In all three cases, these individuals also had helpers nearby who generally pointed them toward the target, the golf green or archery bullseye, and gave them feedback on their shots.

How did this communication and sensory perception by the nearby friends, family or helpers who were able to see affect these apparently miraculous or very lucky shots?

CONTINUING RESEARCH

Maybe some researchers somewhere should take a look at these and other individuals. In decades of research on the phenomena of anomalous cognition and remote viewing, it has been clear that some people have natural abilities to perceive in ways other than, or in combination with our normal senses.

These abilities, however, are believed to be within each of us. We can learn to make the most of them by paying attention to them and learning more about these traits.

They are most likely also present in animals that rely more on instincts and natural kinds of perception than we humans who often depend on our logical, or illogical, brain and thinking.

We are also probably able to consciously or unconsciously optimize the use of these perceptual abilities based on the circumstances.

For example, when there is danger or survival may be at stake, we might naturally try to draw on all available resources within us, whether physical, mental, emotional, spiritual or even in the realm of unconventional, such as anomalous cognition, remote viewing and ESP.

If a loved one is in danger, we might get a particularly troubling gut feeling. If we meet a stranger and we feel danger, maybe we are perceiving a real threat.

People who have experienced dangerous situations in the past might have cultivated these abilities. Maybe other life experiences also enhance these human traits.

A military or intelligence “remote viewer” might get better results when they are working on something that is of crucial importance.

A peace officer on patrol may find that their “cop instincts” kick in when something important demands their attention.

Even a police or military canine might use dogs’ natural sensory and other perceptual resources in expanded ways in certain safety-related situations.

As part of declassified information about the Project STAR GATE research and operations, it is known that dolphins were reportedly tested in regard to anomalous cognition and remote viewing factors. This might make us wonder if the well-known sonar capabilities of dolphins and other marine mammals have similarities in us land animals.

The U.S. Navy has a very active Marine Mammal Program, based in San Diego, that works with and deploys Navy dolphins for various missions and operations. It is not clear from Project STAR GATE reports if that research involved Navy dolphins.

It is known that in certain martial arts, students are blindfolded and told to perceive their opponent through means other than their eyes.

In the 1977 movie "Star Wars," mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi blindfolds student Luke Skywalker while training with the light saber weapon and trying to hit a moving target darting around him. "Use the Force," Kenobi tells Luke, referring to a reality he believes is around us and within us. We can use the Force and it uses us, he tells Luke.

But whether we are talking about martial arts fighters, blind golfers and archers, dogs and dolphins or the rest of us, it is clear that we have the ability to perceive that not only includes our five senses, but also involves a "sixth sense" and maybe more.

How are these perceptions related to psychology, spirituality, biology, physics and some kind of animal or human radar or sonar?

And what really does “luck” and “coincidence” mean? Is there something more going on when certain circumstances come together in interesting and unusual ways?

Some researchers call this “synchronicity,” meaning that so-called coincidences may often be something much more.

As we explore these and other fascinating elements of our world, and inside each one of us, maybe we too will hit a hole-in-one in some way like Robert Dunham and Leo Fiyalko. Maybe each of us can make a “Robin Hood shot” of some kind in our own lives, like Tilly Trotter.

The old saying about our ability to perceive and understand is true about many things, including phenomena like anomalous cognition and remote viewing: “There are none so blind as those who will not see.”
